Ian Cohen MLC is currently circulating the listed petitions and gathering signatures for the presentation of the signatures to the Upper House. A Petition is an opportunity for the citizens of New South Wales to express their wishes and opinions and ask that the Parliament act upon these wishes.
CDL Petition
 The Petition of certain residents of NSW state that the management of beverage container waste has wide implications for energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, pollution and public safety and that a Container Deposit Scheme can positively address these implications by increasing the rate of beverage container recycling in NSW.
Your petitioners pray that the House will take measures to adopt a Container Deposit Scheme that ensures an equitable distribution of responsibility for recycling efforts between industry and consumers and increases rates of beverage container recycling.
GM Petition
The Petition of certain residents of NSW state that genetically modified (GM) foods and products from GM crops pose an unforeseeable risk to the environment, and state their opposition to commercial growing and further introduction of GM crops in the state.
Your petitioners pray that the House will maintain New South Wales’ status as a GM-crop-free state and investigate more stringent labeling on products already containing GM strains.
The Petition of certain residents of NSW state that under Article 20 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, NSW people with a disability have a right to appropriate equipment, aids and appliances and other relevant assistive technologies, as well as personal care assistance, to provide the greatest possible level of independence and autonomy.
Your petitioners request the House ensures current and future budgets for the NSW Program of Appliances for Disabled People (PADP) will be based upon the fundamental need for the timely provision of equipment, aids and appliances that are essential to improve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of people with a disability.
